Case Study

Non-thermal faults

Inappropriate storage

Not all faults we find are thermal faults, however the exercise of walking around a building and conducting a thorough inspection of your electrical switchboards means we do find other issues from time to time.

In this example, a barbell was stored in an electrical switchroom, perched perilously close to live bus bars. An accidental bump of the dumbbell across the electrical phases could’ve easily resulted in a fatal accident. We alerted the customer immediately and a possible disaster was easily averted.

Incorrectly installed equipment.

In this example, two switchboards were mounted very high in a busy loading dock. Not only were the switchboards mounted too high to be able to isolate power in the case of an emergency, they were held up with rope and straps that could subsequently fail and result in 2 live switchboards falling onto equipment or staff. Because the switchboards were “out of sight, out of mind”, the customer wasn’t aware of the issue before we identified it.
